Thoughts for the day

Dave Snowden mentions two good aphorisms to guide vigorous debate

argue as if you are right and listen as if you are wrong (from Karl Weick)

strong opinions, weakly held

These are both interesting articulations to support some vigor in debate and avoid watered-down consensus. They're not universal truths and are surely subject to what Dave calls bounded applicability.

They do remind me of a chat I had with Matt Moore earlier this week, where he said that you don't get many "warrior facilitators". Dave's post makes me wonder about adding a bit of fierceness to the process...
