Self-organisation, traffic lights and empathy

Echos the findings in the books Smart Swarm and Emergence.
Maybe the traffic engineers need a "Nudge"?
A warped side comment, I just read in The New Yorker that the head of Iran's PdD is in traffic management... no room for parody sometimes eh?
