A little resonance

I've noticed a recurring phenomenon in meetings: when I share an experience, someone often echoes my words while commenting on it.

the power of small moments of emotional connection

Transcript of this video:

There’s something I’ve been noticing more and more in meetings, and it’s a particular phenomenon where I’ve shared an experience and then someone else in the group repeats what I’ve said because they’re commenting on my experience.

And often they say more or less exactly the same words I did. And yet I feel an emotional response hearing those words in someone else’s tones and gestures and paces and suddenly the thing that I said I feel more deeply I understand it more deeply so I’ve been changed by it and that sort of experience doesn’t get captured in the transcript which would merely show repetition.

I think this is just one particular case of why our feelings and emotions are so important to be kind of experienced in meetings, because if we’re not having emotional responses, I suspect it means that a lot of the life has gone out of the conversation.

Leading from the clown

I shot this in a single eight-minute take, which is in the spirit of an experience of Ralf Wetzel’s workshop, Leading from the Clown. Clown training is probably the deepest and most challenging work I’ve done. Enjoy.
