What happens if I interrupt the usual urge to sell?
Transcript of this video:
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the idea of unhurried marketing.
My first career before I became a facilitator was in advertising.
But lately I’ve been kind of trying to unlearn quite a lot of the conventional wisdom. For example, I recently self-published my book, Unhurried, and I was thinking, oh, I should do a launch. Perhaps I can create an online launch.
But on the day that I released it, I was about to go off-grid for a few days, so I decided to wait.
And by the time I came back, I decided, you know, I don’t think I want to do a launch. I don’t want to pester my friends to come and pretend to like it.
And although my marketing brain was saying, oh, do a launch, my heart was saying, no, I don’t want to.
And with Unhurried, I practice a lot going more with my heart. Similarly, I’ve resisted the urge to ask anyone to review it on Amazon.
I’ve decided I’m gonna see what happens if I leave it there. And, you know, perhaps the book will then work, if it works, on its own terms.
Because one thing I’m aware of is I don’t want to contribute any further to the tragedy of the commons that we in the west are living in where we are on the end of so many promotional messages so much of the time.
I don’t want to be contributing to yet more of that noise, or at least I want to experiment with contributing less.
So I’m going to continue to explore this and I’ve got a few ideas for more of these videos related to the subject.
