Innovation or real needs?

I’m Johnnie Moore, and I help people work better together

Tim Kastelle has good post The Worst Innovation Quote Ever. That’s the one about inventing a better mousetrap and the world beating a path to your door. Apparently there are shed loads of patents for mousetraps but they’re not sufficiently better than the old model so there’s little interest in them.

Tim argues that we are knee deep in ideas and what really matters is meeting real needs. This really resonates with me. Quite a few of my recent posts have reflected the sense that in our stressed and complex world, the ability to express and to hear real needs, above the clamour for stimulation and novelty, is what matters.
