Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking Fast and Slow also has interesting stuff to say about feedback. He draws an interesting contrast between radiologists and anesthesiologists. The latter are likely to see the consquences of their choices in the short run; the latter only over time. So anesthesiologists have more opportunity to build reliable intuitions.

He argues that psychotherapists develop intuitions based on the short term impact of their work what they see happening in the room; but this may be a very poor basis for assessing the long term impact of their work.

I think when it comes to collaboration, we’re probably all short on good quality feedback, both long and short term.
